Dublin, Ireland: Aisling Daly put on an dominant display in her hometown, earning a unanimous decision win over Ericka Almeida.
UFC Fight Night 76 was held on October 24, 2015 at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The whole event aired on UFC Fight Pass. Aisling Daly vs. Ericka Almeida took place on the preliminary portion of the card.
The second SBG Ireland fighter of the night (or afternoon) gets an equally wild reaction from the crowd. There’s something about the Irish faithful singing Sinead O’Connor in unison. Gets me every time. McGregor looks emotional in the crowd. And we’re off.
Daly comes out swinging as the crowd explodes. Almeida trades for a bit but quickly clinches against the cage. She seems to be teasing a judo throw, but never fully commits. With a minute left, Daly gets the trip and stacks Almeida up against the fence. Almeida doing her best to maintain wrist control from the bottom, but Daly sneaks a few through and ends the first round emphatically. Coach John Kavangh has deemed Almeida “broken”.
MMA Mad scores the first round 10-9 Daly.
Daly is completely smothering Almeida in this one. Shes gets a full body lock and uses it to trip Almeida again. This time, they’re in the center of the Octagon and Daly quickly looks to secure a head and arm choke. She’s got to jump to the other side of Almeida. Instead, she decides to posture up and land bombs from top position. Almeida threatens with a triangle and uses it to reverse into top position. Now side control. Now she’s got her back. Daly is defending with wrist control and survives. May have to give the nod to Almeida for the grappling prowess.
MMA Mad scores the second round 10-9 Almeida (19-19 overall)
Daly fires up the crowd and man, what a reaction! She runs across the cage and lands some bombs, before Almeida has a chance to clinch up. Daly attempts a judo throw but Almeida defends by taking control of her back. Daly shakes her off and we’ve returned to the ground-and-pound. A barrage of up-kicks keep Almeida out of serious danger until the last ten seconds when she begins to light her up. Big round from Daly who should take the third, and the fight. With a boost from Kavanagh, Daly sits atop the cage, showered in applause. Very emotional moment for the Ireland native.
MMA Mad scores the third round 10-9 Daly (29-28 Daly)
