UFC 195, headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship fight between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit, now has it’s co-main event. Andrei Arlovski and Stipe Miocic will square off in a heavyweight bout with big title implications.
Arlovski has been the face of the veteran resurgence as of late. After leaving the UFC in 2008, he struggled to find consistency, amassing an 0-3 record in Strikeforce, and a 2-1 record with World Series of Fighting. He finally earned another shot in the UFC in June of 2014, and has taken full advantage of the opportunity. Currently riding a six fight win streak, Arlovski is right on the verge of challenging for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, a title he last held in April of 2006.
Stipe Miocic has won four out of his last five fights, with his lone loss coming in a ‘Fight of the Night’ worthy FOX headliner against Junior dos Santos. In his last fight, Miocic scored a fifth round knockout over Mark Hunt in front of a hostile crowd in Australia; the 9th KO of his career.
The UFC has Miocic and Arlovski ranked at #3 and #4, respectively, likely making this a title eliminator (with the possibility of JDS or Overeem stealing a bid away from either man in December).
UFC 195 takes place on Saturday, January 2nd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a great start to the 2016 New Year’s card. We’ll keep you posted as more fights are announced.
