Washington Da Silva vs. Colton Smith took place on the preliminary card which aired live on MMA Mad. World Series of Fighting 24: Fitch vs. Okami was held on October 17, 2015 in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Both guys feeling each other out for much of this one. It’s finally Colton that presses the action with a clinch, but Silva who gets the best of it with a couple knees and a big takedown. It doesn’t take long for things to get back to the feet, however, and the biggest move of the fight comes with a big slam from Smith. Gotta give a close one to Smith but neither guy ran away with it.
10-9 Colton Smith
Colton Smith spends nearly all of round two in top position, quickly transitioning to side control and peppering Washington with some short elbows. He does a good job of maintaining position but doesn’t take a lot of chances and, as a result, limits the damage done. Temporary stoppage and a point deduction for an eye gouge adds insult to injury. This one goes to Smith and winds up as a 10-8.
10-8 Colton Smith (20-17 Smith w/point deduction)
Colton is the aggressor in round three as well. Another stoppage as Da Silva complains about an eye poke. No point taken this time and action continues. That left hook is there all day for Smith who is clearly winning the striking exchanges. Da Silva attempts a takedown and Smith demonstrates some great balance to end up in top position. With a minute left, he begins working for a rear naked choke but the cage saves Da Silva from the finish. He should still lose the decision though.
10-9 Colton Smith (30-26 Smith)
Official Results: Colton Smith def. Washington Da Silva via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)
With the win, Colton Smith moves to 6-4 MMA whilst Washington Da Silva drops to 5-2 MMA.
