Magomed Bibulatov and Donavon Frelow kicked things off on the main card. Great talent coming from the WSOF flyweight division, as the two compete for the inaugural flyweight championship. Bibulatov looks to be the superior fighter, however, as he controlled nearly every aspect of the fight. With his spinning attacks and wrestling, he could be on top of this division for a long time. Don’t be surprised if he gets the call up to the UFC soon.
Some creative striking from both guys in the first minute of action. Frelow narrowly avoids a couple big head kicks but gets caught with a big judo throw. Back to the feet but not for long, as Bibulatov lands another big takedown. A big backfist lands flush in the final seconds. Frelow seems to have shaken it off pretty well, but it looked painful. Good round for Bibulatov
MMA Mad scores the first round 10-9 Bibulatov
A slower pace to the second round. Neither guy looks tired, but they seem to be more cautious; possibly conserving some energy for a five round fight. More punches were slipped than landed in this one. A flurry from Frelow may have been enough to steal the round, but just barely. I could see this going either way.
MMA Mad scores the second round 10-9 Frelow and 19-19 overall
Looks like Bibulatov has returned to his first round form in the third. He’s gone back to his spinning back kick a few times now and it’s landing with success. A pair of takedowns at the midway point get Frelow in a bad position, but he quickly reverses and uses the scramble to get things back to the feet. Some fun exchanges in this one. Both guys landing with good accuracy, but it’s Bibulatov that takes the round.
MMA Mad scores the third round 10-9 Bibulatov and 29-28 overall
Man that spinning back kick looks vicious. Pair that with tremendous wrestling and you’ve got a really dangerous guy in Bibulatov. He’s controlling this fight so far and looks really sharp. Onto the final round.
MMA Mad scores the fourth round 10-9 Bibulatov and 39-37 overall
Quickly to the ground, but inactivity leads to the stand up from Big Dan. Bibulatov is really putting on a show out there, digging deep into his bag of tricks with a huge variety of kicks. A takedown in the final minute pretty much seals the fate of this one.
MMA Mad scores the fifth round 10-9 Bibulatov and 49-46 overall
Official Result – Magomed Bibulatov def. Donavon Frelow via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45)
With the win, Bibulatov improves to 10-0 while Frelow drops to 4-1.
