It’s main event time! Jon Fitch vs. Yushin Okami set to headline what has been a very exciting card.
Fitch drives for the takedown but runs out of room when they reach the cage. This poor camera man has almost been knocked off his stool twice now. Both Fitch and Okami trade positions until Big Dan separates them. It doesn’t take long for both guys to end up in the same spot, however. This, unfortunately, is the bi-product of such evenly matched guys with similar skillsets. In such a close round, one takedown could take it, but neither guy can land one, so this has to be a draw.
MMA Mad scores the first round 10-10
Fitch begins round two with another double leg attempt and this time succeeds. Okami is sitting up against the cage, but Fitch is in control. But not for long, as things return to the feet. Not much in the way of striking so far. Fitch lands another double leg. Although I can’t hear him, I can only assume WSOF color commentator Chael Sonnen approves. Fitch spends the rest of the round in dominant position, ending the round in a pseudo back control position.
MMA Mad scores the second round 10-9 Fitch (20-19 overall)
More of the same in round three. Fitch should take this one 30-28, but it was an underwhelming end to an otherwise great card.
MMA Mad scores the third round 10-9 Fitch (30-28 overall)
Official Results – Jon Fitch def. Yushin Okami via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
With the win, Fitch improves to 27-7-1, while Okami falls to 30-10.
