Mashantucket, Connecticut:

We move on to the co-main event; a heavyweight championship bout between Blagoi Ivanon and Derrick Mehman. Ivanov proved why he is the champion in this one. Great toughness and grit from Mehmen, but Ivanov completely outclassed him on the feet, ultimately earning the stoppage in the second.

Live play-by-play

Round 1:

Big swarm from Ivanov but Mehmen somehow manages to survive. Could be the biggest moment of the fight as Ivanov may have punched himself out. These guys have big power though and there’s a title on the line. Mehmen seems to have broken his nose pretty bad as his face is bloody. Has to be affecting his breathing. With two minutes left, he hasn’t even been wobbled, which is pretty wild considering some of the shots he’s taken. This was a pretty clear 10-9 for Ivanov, but Mehmen is showing some real toughness. Ivanov ends the round with his hands low, looking for a counter.

Round 2:

Ivanov continues to attack that nose with straight lefts, but not enough in my opinion. The pace has slowed a bit, but only in the frequency of strikes. The punches are still coming at full power. The nose held up for about three and a half minutes but was eventually opened up again. Ivanov is landing with real accuracy now. And it’s over! He lands one final blow that drops Mehmen to the mat and causes him to shell up. Ivonov looked phenomenal in his title defense.

Ivonov finishing things in the second round via knockout.
