Multiple fighters put their name in the hat to replace Stipe Miocic following injury

News broke earlier today that Stipe Miocic has suffered an injury and had to pull out of his co-main event bout at UFC Fight Night 76 on October 24 in Dublin.

The first fighter to enter his name into the Ben Rothwell sweepstakes was heavyweight Matt Mitrione. Mitrione (9-4 MMA) an alum of season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter is coming off a loss to Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 68. That loss broke an impressive three fight first round TKO winning streak (Gabriel Gonzaga, Shawn Jordan & Derrick Lewis)

Another fighter to throw his name into the mix in Blackzillian member Tyrone Spong. Primarily a kickboxer, Spong was in attendence when the UFC returned to Dublin a year ago and instantly wanted on the next card in Dublin.

Spong has not competed in MMA since WSOF 4 August 10, 2013 where he won a unanimous decision over Angel DeAnda. Spong is coming off a gruesome leg injury that he suffered at Glory 15 against Gokhan Saki. Midway through the opening round, Spong threw a kick to Saki’s left leg. Saki checked the kick, causing Spong’s lower right leg to fracture immediately and end the fight via TKO.

Update ++

Derrick Lewis throws his name into the hat. Lewis (13-4-1 MMA) is coming off a TKO win over Viktor Pesta at UFC 192 earlier this month.

Middleweight Derek Brunson has also put his name forward
