Episode 5

And here we go! I’ve got American Horror Story and Southpark recording on the DVR. For now, it’s TUF time. According to Conor, Saul vs. Billy was the result of Saul’s energy and body being ‘right’ at the moment. Faber’s advice revolved around angles and aggression. Billy had his back taken early in the prelim fight, leading both teams to speculate about Saul’s advantage in the grappling game.

It seems like there are some issues with Billy’s experience level. Faber offers some good good advice with loads of patience, but how will it all work out in the cage?

“Billy has a lot of tenacity; tries very very hard. But his technique is far behind.” – Urijah Faber

The guys from both teams go out to dinner and there’s a funny moment where Conor is disappointed with the extent of the food menu. In true Conor fashion, he decides to order everything.

“Is this the menu, that’s it?! …just give me everything” – Conor McGregor

Some trash talk. Both fighters make weight. Quick commercial break.

Fight day. Billy pegs Saul as one of the top two guys on Team Europe but is confident he can walk away on top. Saul doesn’t believe that Billy’s confidence is real.

—————— COMMERCIAL BREAK ——————

Billy comes out aggressive, but Saul seems to be landing with more precision. Then, despite a disadvantage on the ground, Billy attempts a takedown that is easily stuffed by Saul. Saul goes on to control the ground game and doesn’t relent for the remainder of the round. Complete dominance by the European so far.

Rd.1: 10-9 Saul Rogers

—————— COMMERCIAL BREAK ——————

Saul seems extra loose and confident after that lopsided first round. He mixes it up with some striking for about 30 seconds before shooting for a takedown, and from then on, it felt like a replay of the first round. Billy was completely outclassed in this one. He was in way over his head; plain and simple.

Rd.2: 10-9 Saul Rogers (20-18 overall)

The judges score it in favor of Saul Rogers, even giving him a variety of 10-8 rounds (20-16, 20-16, 20-17). Rogers looks to be one of the strongest fighters in the competition so far.

Saul Rogers (EUR) def. Billy Quarantillo (USA) via unanimous decision (20-16, 20-16, 20-17)

Mehdi Baghdad of Team Europe vs. Julian Erosa of Team USA has been pegged for next week. Looking forward to a good one! See you guys for episode 6.
