UFC Boston || Main and Co-Main Event Confirmed; Two New Bouts Added

Written by @NickRiznerMMA

The Main Event and Co-Main Event for UFC Boston have been confirmed via UFC Tonight.

The FOX Sports 1 card will feature a highly anticipated bantamweight championship bout between T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz. Cruz is still considered by many to be the ‘true champion’ having never officially lost his belt. In fact, he hasn’t lost anything since he took on Urijah Faber at WEC 26 back in 2007. Cruz was ultimately stripped of his title following a litany of injuries that led to a three year lay off. Cruz returned to action in September of 2014 with a lighting fast knockout, but was again sidelined with a torn ACL.

Now, nearly a year and a half after his last fight, Cruz will attempt to take his belt back from the streaking T.J. Dillashaw. Stylistically, Dillashaw and Cruz are mirror images of each other, using angles and combinations to out manuever nearly every opponent they face. What happens when they square off? We’ll have our answer on January 17th.

The co-main event will feature an exciting matchup between top contenders Anthony Pettis and Eddie Alvarez. Pettis is coming off a championship¬†fight loss to Rafael dos Anjos, falling short in his second title defense, while Alvarez is coming off a split decision win over Gilbert Melendez. Pettis holds a recent win over Melendez as well, however “Showtime” accomplished the feat in much more convincing fashion.

Also on the card, a heavyweight matchup between Travis Browne and Matt Mitrione, as well as a middleweight matchup between Tim Boetsch and Ed Herman.
