Hidalgo, Texas –
Bellator 143 took place on September 25, 2015 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas and saw a heavyweight clash between Chase Gormley and Dan Charles go down.
Charles (10-3) came out strong in the first and showed that he was ready to throw leather with his larger opponent. He landed clean shots for most of the stanza and kept Gormley, a UFC veteran and current Titan FC heavyweight champ, from taking the fight to the mat. Chalres wore Gormley down in the first, who was also suffering from a cut above the eye caused by a clash of heads, and then looked to finish in the second.
After catching Gormley (12-5) with a counter that dropped him to the mat, Dan “The Man” Charles pursued his wounded foe across the cage, winging single right hand bombs all the way. He landed five such shots before Gormley was trapped against the cage. Then the combos came and Gormley dropped, forcing the referee to halt the bout 4:35 into round two and declare Charles the victor via KO.
The loss was Gormley’s first since 2011. He had entered the bout on a 5-fight winning streak. Charles, on the other hand, had dropped a bout to Bobby Lashley in his previous outing. The rebound knockout now moves Charles to 3-2 overall in Bellator’s heavyweight class.
