A pivotal bout between bantamweight prospects Thomas Almeida and Anothony Birchak has been announced for UFC Fight Night 77 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The event will mark Almeida’s one year anniversary with the promotion, almost to the day. During that time, the 24 year old has proven capable of preserving his perfect record while also providing exciting finishes that saw him leap into the bantamweight top 10. Another performance like his last, a definitive KO early in the 2nd round against a game Brad Pickett, and Almeida (19-0, 3-0 UFC) will find himself climbing even higher up the rankings.
Standing in the impressive Brazilian’s path will be the tough, Arizonan prospect Anthony Birchak (12-2, 1-1 UFC). The Lute Elite representative dropped a submission loss to Ian Entwistle in his UFC debut last December, but rebounded from the setback and is coming off of a huge KO victory over former title challenger Joe Soto at UFC Fight Night 68 in June.
The opportunity to use this fight as a springboard to an even brighter spotlight will exist for both men when they enter the cage together this fall. A victory for the surging and highly touted Almeida will likely result in a top 10 match up with one of the division’s elite fighters. On the other hand, if Birchak can put on a fight winning performance, then he will have proven that he is also a talent to watch and find himself in possession of a status similar to the one currently held down by his opponent.
The event will air live on Fox Sports 1 in the United States and is scheduled to take place at the Geraldo Jose De Almeida State Gymnasium on November 7, 2015. The contest will likely be added to a main card that is expected to be headlined by the trilogy match between a pair of legendary, future hall of fame inductees, Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort.
