Las Vegas, Nevada – Andrei Arlovski scraped past Frank Mir on the judges scorecard in a lacklustre bout at UFC 191.
UFC 191 took place tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Andrei Arlovski vs. Frank Mir was the co-main event of UFC 191 which aired on PPV in the United States and BT Sport in the UK.
The first round started slowly with both fighters trying to work out their timing. Mir initiates the clinch however Arlovski breaks free and throws a huge overhand right followed by an oblique kick. Arlovski looking smooth and relaxed on the feet, Mir is looking for the clinch at every opportunity.
Round 2 starts with Mir looking to take the fight to the ground and successfully gets the takedown, landing heavy strikes from inside Arlovski’s guard. Mir becomes inactive on top and referee John McCarthy stands them up. Mir with his hands down by his side, attempts a spinning back fist and is partially blocked by Arlovski. Both fighters are looking tired as the clock counts down. Arlovski had Mir up against the fence to end the round.
Round three starts with Arlovski clinching with Mir up against the cage which forces John McCarthy to interupt and reset the action in the middle of the cage. Both fighters are visably exhausted in the third until Mir tags Arlovski with a right hand and lands in half guard however Arlovski gets straight back to his feet and back up against the cage. The fight goes the distance, the last round was fairly lacklustre.
With the win, Arlovski improves to 25-10-1 MMA whilst Mir drops to 18-10 MMA
