After a two-fight stint with CES MMA, Matt Bessette is scheduled to return to the Bellator cage on October 23rd, for Bellator 144. The event will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena; the tenth time the Connecticut native has performed in his home state.
His opponent will be Kevin Roddy, a veteran submission specialist who has been clicking as of late; winning four of his last five fights since dropping down to featherweight. Out of action since May 2014, Roddy will need to shake off some ring rust before this one, as October will mark nearly one and a half years since his last fight.
This will be Matt’s fourth fight of 2015, a year he begun by stringing together back-to-back knockout performances against Josh LaBerge and Khama Worthy, followed by a loss to Lenny Walker on August 14th.
Eager to put the loss behind him, the Mangler will need to make a statement in his return to Bellator. We reached out to Matt, and he had this to say about his upcoming fight.
My last fight sucked. It was a learning experience to say the least. I will be making up for that ten fold. – Matt Bessette
In addition to his personal goal of redemption, Matt will have something else to fight for on October 23rd. He will be joining up with Justin Wren to help support Fight For The Forgotten, a nonprofit organization that lends aid to the Mbuti Pygmies of the Congo. You can find out more about the cause here.
The night will also feature Michael Page, Brennan Ward, and a bantamweight title fight between Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas, in what is shaping up to be a stacked card. I suggest you get your tickets before they sell out.
