TEMECULA, Calif. (August 28, 2015) – It wasn’t earned without exhausting effort, but Brent Primus was able to hold on to his perfect record by defeating lightweight prospect Derek Anderson via split decision.
Bellator 141 takes place at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif. Derek Anderson vs. Brent Primus took place on the preliminary card that aired on Spike.com. The game plans of both men were clear from the onset of the bout, with Anderson attempting to force his striking skills to the forefront while Primus looked to take the action to the mat. Derek Anderson (12-2, 3-2 BMMA) scored early in the first round, planting Primus on the canvas, but he soon found himself grappling with Rickson Gracie protege instead of throwing strikes.
Primus tried to do the same in the second stanza, but missed on a submission attempt and allowed Anderson to land heavy ground and pound from the guard. At the end of two rounds, the third would be the deciding five minutes.
The final round proved to be competitive. Both men were able to score standing and do work grappling, but it was Primus who convinced two of the judges with with ground control and walked away with the decision. He is now 6-0, with four of those victories coming inside of Bellator MMA’s cage.
