AJ Matthews found himself in trouble towards the end of round one, but it was Matthews’ early striking that won him the fight. Reportedly, Matthews felt sick and couldn’t move his arm. His corner could be heard saying “he has no legs.” A strange start to the night, but either way, AJ Matthews win via TKO at 5:00 into the first round.
With the win, Matthews improves to 8-3, with a Bellator record of 4-2. The stoppage marks his second consecutive first round finish and stands as his sixth career knockout. Despite the unorthodox manner in which he earned the victory, Matthews secured an important win in a middleweight division for the taking. Expect him to face a marquee opponent in his next bout with Bellator.
