UFC 190 will be held on August 1, 2015 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The event will be headlined by a UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship bout between current champion Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia.
Rousey (11-0 MMA) is the first and only UFC bantamweight championship. Since being promoted to the UFC’s women’s bantamweight title from the Strikeforce title in 2013, Rousey has gone 5-0 inside the octagon looking largely untested. Her last two bouts have lasted a combined total of 30 seconds. A ‘Performance of the Night’ KO over Alexis Davis at UFC 175 which lasted 16 seconds was followed by a 14 second submission victory over Cat Zingano at UFC 184. This performance also earned Rousey a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.
Correia (9-0 MMA) entered the UFC in 2013 and faced women’s MMA pioneer Julie Kedzie at UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia winning the bout via split decision. The next two bouts in the UFC earned Correia the title shot this Saturday night. ‘Pitbull’ took out two of Rousey’s friends in pretty dominant fashion. A unanimous decision win over Jessamyn Duke at UFC 172 was followed by a devastating TKO performance over Shayna Baszler at UFC 177.
The co-main event features a rematch of the Pride Middleweight grand prix bout back in 2005 between Maurício Rua vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira. Rua won the first bout via unanimous decision.
The lightweight and bantamweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 are also expected to take place at this event
The event is also expected to feature a UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship title eliminator bout between Cláudia Gadelha and former WSOF Women’s Strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar.
