UFC 188 || Predictions

Josh Hedges - ZUFFA LLC

UFC 188 will be held on June 13, 2015 at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico.  It will be the second event the UFC has held in Mexico City.

The event will be headlined by a UFC Heavyweight Championship unification bout between current champion Cain Velasquez and interim champion Fabrício Werdum. The bout was originally expected to take place at UFC 180. However, Velasquez pulled out of the bout due to a knee injury and the event was instead headlined by an interim title bout between Werdum and Mark Hunt.

Velasquez (13-1 MMA) last fought in the octagon on October 19, 2013 at UFC 166 against Junior dos Santos.  Since losing the UFC Heavyweight championship to dos Santos in 2011, Velasquez has looked utterly dominant, defeating Antonio Silva twice, both via TKO in the first round and defeating Junior dos Santos twice, firstly in a unanimous decision at UFC 155 and then another dominant TKO win at UFC 166.

Werdum (19-5-1 MMA) has had a resurgence in his career since joining the UFC since ZUFFA bought Strikeforce. Werdum is currently riding a five fight winning streak. Decision wins over Roy Nelson and Travis Browne  were added to by a submission win over Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and a TKO win over Mike Russow. His latest bout, at UFC 180 Werdum knocked out Mark Hunt with a flying knee and following ground and pound to become interim champion in Velasquez’ absence.

The co-main event features the former Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez taking on the former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
