UFC 187 will be held on May 23, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event was expected to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between then champion Jon Jones and top contender Anthony Johnson. However on April 28th, following Jones’ hit-and-run incident the UFC decided to strip him of the title and suspend him indefinitely. Jones was replaced by the latest title challenger Daniel Cormier, who was scheduled to face Ryan Bader at the main event of UFC Fight Night 68.

Johnson (19-4 MMA) is looked sensational since returning to the UFC following a stint with WSOF, dominating Phil Davis in his return bout via unanimous decision at UFC 172. Following that results, ‘Rumble’ has looking nothing but scary. A brutal knockout of Antônio Rogério Nogueira at UFC on FOX 12 was followed up with another knockout victory over Alexander Gustafsson in Stockholm, Sweden. Both of these KO victories earned Johnson ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses.

Cormier (15-1 MMA) is coming off a UFC Light Heavyweight title loss to former champion Jon Jones at UFC 182 in a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance. This was ‘DC’s’ first loss as a professional. Before the fight with Jones, Cormier had ammased a 4-0 record in the UFC with notable wins over Frank Mir, Roy Nelson and Dan Henderson.

The co-main event is a UFC Middleweight Championship bout between current champion Chris Weidman and former UFC Light Heavyweight Vitor Belfort. The much delayed pairing had been rescheduled for several events. The first of which was UFC 173, where Belfort withdrew from the bout following the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s ban on testosterone replacement therapy. The other events were UFC 181 and UFC 184, where Weidman withdrew from both bouts due to a broken hand and injured ribs, respectively.
